For our New Year's Resolution 2011 our family decided it was time to start taking care of our health and start a better diet. We started noticing that a lot of our health problems were stemming from a poor diet, rich in preservatives and sodium. The easy convenience of fast food and quick pre-packaged meals had over taken our life. Not only did I feel that our health was suffering but also our valuable family time. What were we teaching our kids about self reliance and the importance of the family coming together as one for a meal? It became our goal to cut out the bad habits as often as we could and eat fresh. We now grow what we can in our garden and try to purchase from local vendors to make sure we are getting the highest quality meats and produce available. Check out some of the recipes we have made below. Yes, it is true that making things from scratch takes time, but the extra love and strong bonds it has allowed our family to grow are well worth the effort!!And working in the kitchen together lends perfectly to so many school lessons: math, science, reading, and practical living skills.
